Inner Ear
Dear Auntie, I’ve been told the best tool for improvising is to get “inner ear”. I tried the technique while playing with my girlfriend, but when she felt me getting behind she segued into a trumpet aire and within a few beats I was belittled by her. Is this natural? Sawed Dummy
To really get “inner ear” requires patience and perseverance. Don’t succumb to innuendo over-analizing everything. While in the end she may have pooh-poohed your tool, hang in there - it’ll come.
